False of Samoreau

A case relayed by the press of the time with a certain vagueness maintained by the public authorities of the time!

A notable event in Postal History!

Letters with this forgery are extremely rare, unusual and slightly anachronistic.

In March 1936, Simon Depul, a railway worker from the PLM, discovered near Samoreau a 28 kg package with a thousand sheets of fake 50c Peace unperforated stamps.

On April 21, 1936, the press reported the arrest of the forger: Louis Kalousek, a 31-year-old former legionnaire. The sponsor is a man named Hubert Dufour. The forgers' liaison officer is a certain Gaston Tourette. A fourth accomplice; Gaston Gautherin is also apprehended.

Searches at the homes of the four crooks led to the discovery of other fake stamps, different from Samoreau's fakes according to the press. We will not know more.

Registered letter posted in Saint-Ambroix (Gard) to Juan-les Pins. Dated 6.4.38. Cancellation of the letter with date stamp A5.

Amount 2.15F: 0.65F for the letter at the first weight level (12.07.37) + 1.50F for the postage supplement for the registered letter (12.07.37).

Late use of white types, orphans of war and of course an exceptional block of four from Samoreau's fake.

There is no reason to think that this letter is a letter of convenience: it is a registered mail with the right price! The user probably "scraped" the bottoms of the drawer to free this letter embellished with false Peace type to limit the cost!

Extremely rare letter (RRR) of 14.5.38 late and isolated, posted by a very occasional offender! To Paris 10° franked 65c with a false Samoreau at the rate of the first weight level.

Tax of 30c for the poste restante.

This tax suggests that it is not a letter of convenience!

NB: the 2c stamp in the white type as well as the two attached 2c and 10c sowers suggest a serration of the false Samoreau. Thus surrounded, this coarse forgery could deceive the postal services of the time.

This letter features a first type A4 cancellation followed by a second type A5 cancellation, particularly on the tax stamp.
